| Hi, I'm a new Studio One Professional user. I come from SONAR. So far I'm extremely impressed with Studio One. I did run into a little snag initially and contacted support. I had my answer from Brian within a day. I couldn't figure out how to set a Key Signature for a Song project. Specifically, for MIDI. I transcribe a lot of music. I then create MIDI files and port into Sibelius for sheet music printing and PDF creation for other musicians to perform. I hope this tip will help someone else... 1. Create a song in Studio One and add an instrument track. Track>Add Tracks 2. Drag your desired instrument from the right-hand side of the screen into your newly created track. 3. Go to View>Editor or press F2 to open the piano roll MIDI view. 4. Underneath the title of your score in the editor, you will see the word 'Scale.' This is where you can change the key. Thank you, Brian. |
This can be set either by clicking on the Key Signature in the transport bar and choosing the key from the pop-up or by determining it from an instrument part. To do this, select the instrument part on the track and right-click on the event. From the menu, choose Instrument Parts/Detect Key Signature. This document lists all Studio One 4 maintenance updates and their included fixes and improvements. Song Key Signature with detection.
| Really... wow... nice That sounds easier and cleaner! I've always used Melodyne, then drag the notes up and down for the key change. If you've not already done so... Studio One 4 Key
'need to set song key eg A# or what ever key I need for each song etc.'
I'm not sure there is a reason for doing it. You can do anything in a track and you are free to use any key. I don't do any electronic music so I don't understand your need to set up a key for a song. May be my own ignorance.
There may be DAWs out there that make you stay in one specific key, sounds awful, but Studio One breaks the chains and allows you to do anything.
If you are moving stems from one DAW to another, Studio One will let you do absolutely anything, no specific key since the tracks key can change at your whim, so it doesn't lock you into a set key.
Sounds like you are entering a more unencumbered realm.
If you got the Professional edition of Studio One, there is an awesome treatment for mastering called 'Multi-band Dynamics'. When used after a track is finished, it brings out a lot of what is lost when layering things. It is a multiband compressor that allows you to pick frequency ranges to compress, and others to leave uncompressed.
If you need the song key for your own preferences, I'd just add it to the track name, since it matters not in the DAW.

If I've missed the meaning of your question, please let me know. Studio One does not make you stay in a specific key.

If you make a track in Sony, and want to change the key half way through for a different part or feel, do you have to make a new song for the second half in the new key and then master them together? I'm not sure I know of what you are used to. I'd love to help you more fully. Let me know!!!
